Magic
Erica was someone who was like a background character. She was there, but nothing else. She usually sat with her friends at lunch, talking about the supernatural and theories that included this subject. Erica and her friends were the type of people that most people disregarded, or didn't even know existed. But that would change soon.
Erica and her friends were the type of peopole to have supernatural posters all over their room, the type who used candles to light the room, wore all black, and tried summoning demons.
Erica tried to summon demons almost everyday. She would sit in the middle of an evocation, with candles lit around her. She would then try a ritual from an old book, and do whatever the book said. She did this to no prevail. But she kept trying.
One day, Erica was trying to summon demons again. As she waved her arms round and round, she could see that her fingertips on her right hand had turned black. She gasped, realizing that the ritual had done something.
"I have got to tell this to Sam and the others," she said to herself.
The next day at school, Erica told her friends about what had happened last night. Her friends looked at her in amazement.
"I was trying to summon demons last night, and this happened," she said while showing everyone her hand.
"Woah! But to prove that it's real, let's go try to wash it off first," Sam said.
The group walked to the bathroom, and put Erica's hand under water. Erica felt a pain shooting up her body, but didn't put her hand away. Then, her friends tried scrubbing it off. Her hand felt like it was burning. Erica screamed and jolted her hand back. There was steam rising from the blackened fingertips, and the it had spread further down her hands.
"See! I told you it was real! But for some reason, it burns when it touches water. And it's spread down my fingers!" she said.
Sam examined her fingers carefully. "We should probably go to the nurse."
"Ok then, let's go," Erica said.
The group arrived in the nurse's office. The nurse took a look at Erica's hand, and asked why it was black.
"I was trying to summon a demon, and when I looked at my hand, my fingertips were black. I put it underwater, and it burned like fire. Now it's spread down a bit," Erica said.
"Hm. I'm gonna try conventional healing techniques, but if it doesn't work, you should try going to a church," the nurse responded.
After trying all she could, the nurse gave up. "If you got that from summoning a demon, then you really need to go to a church."
Erica thanked the nurse for her help, and they group left. They went back to their day. During this time, Erica would occasionally check if the darkness had spread down her hand. It didn't.
When Erica arrived at home, she checked her hand once again. To her horror, it had spead down her entire hand, and was close to infecting her arm.
"Maybe I should tell Mom and Dad," she said to herself, "but I'm probably gonna get in trouble for doing demony stuff, so it's better if I don't."
That night, as Erica slept, she had a terrible nightmare. She was standing at Fletchler's Field. Fires were engulfing the town. She could hear the people she knew and loved yelling for help or screaming in agony as they slowly burned alive. But Erica couldn't move. She tried desperately, and her head turned in all different directions as she looked around her. She tried to close her eyes. She didn't want to see all the charred, burnt bodies of her friends and family dropping to the ground, their bodies still in positons of torment. Then, the flames reached her. She felt the pain she felt when water touched the black part of her hand, only it was now engulfing her body. She screamed, but no sound came out. Then, she closed her eyes for the final time.
Erica woke up, crying and sweating. She went to the bathroom, and checked in the mirror. She gasped and began to cry. The darkness had seeped up her arm, and was nearing her neck. She sat down on the bathroom floor, hands in her face, and started to weep silently. Then, she saw a tiny fairy like being, fluttering across the bathroom floor. The two stared at each other for a bit.
"Child, I saw what happened in your dream. I am here to help you. Come with me," the fairy said.
"Who are you? And how do you know what happened in my dream?" Erica asked.
"That's not important. What's important is getting rid of the evil that is trying to take control of your body," the fairy said.
"What's this evil? And what's it gonna do after it takes over my body?" Erica asked.
"The evil's name is Kagni. Kagni a flame demon known as The Engulfer. If he comes to possess your body, he will be able to engulf the world in flames. He'll also be able to free his wife, Ky. The two of them will bring an insurmountable amount of destruction to the world, and an era of darkness will ensue," the fairy said.
They two were walking on a path Erica knew well. The path to Fletchler's Field. Erica shivered as she remembered her nightmare.
"How were Kagni and Ky found then?" Erica asked the fairy.
"Kagni was easy to track. Wherever there's destructive fires, there's Kagni. We found him in California thousands of years ago. Ky was harder. Ky is a demon of love and bloodshed. She infects people who have a great love for someone, and uses bloodshed as a twisted way of showing affection to the person the infected loves. We were able to locate her after hearing about a woman who fed her child to the crocodiles two hundred years ago," the fairy said.
Erica felt uncomfortable and unsafe after hearing about these two demons. Her arm throbbed and ached whenever she looked or thought about it.
Then, they arrived in Fletchler's Field. Erica felt faint. Everything looked just like it had in her dream. The fairy calmed her down, telling her that it was going to be alright.
"So, what are you gonna do now?" Erica asked.
The fairy looked at Erica sadly. "Kagni is far too dangerous. The world can't tolerate him being around. We must kill him. Even if it means killing you."
Erica's eyes widened. Tears started pouring out. She tried running away, but she couldn't move or talk. Her body was stuck in the same place. All she could do was cry silently, and think about how her life was going to be ended. Erica thought about her family, her friends, her life. As she thought about this, she began to realize what her dream meant. She cried even harder, not wanting to die.
"I'm very sorry," the fairy said as she blasted fire at Erica with a spell.
Erica looked around her. It was her last look at the beautiful world she had lived in. She closed her eyes for the last time, before screaming in agony as she was cooked alive.
