Antarctica
I really did not want to go here, but I really wanted the experience, and it was just too good to pass up. I'm freezing right now. I'm in Antarctica for an internship. Me and the other kids have spent the first week learning about the climate, and the safety rules. We've also taken this time to try and get used to the bitter cold.
Antarctica is a really beautiful place. There are dark brown mountains with blankets of white snow, pieces of ice floating in the port, and there's wildlife everywhere. I've never seen so many penguins in their natural habitat! The water here looks darker and meaner than water back home. Although I want to stick my arm into the water like I usually do on a boat, I'm not going to out of fear of getting frostbite.
We've started to observe and take notes about the penguin colony that lives near the lab. We've been told to not get too close and cuddly with any of the animals, but I really, really want to. The penguins' habitats are near the water. They like to stand by the water, on the rocky beaches. I wish I could be as warm as the penguins. I wonder how warm they would be if I hugged them.
Antarctica is terribly cold, and I never want to come back again, no matter the amount of wildlife I get to see. The snow and ice is so white and bright that my eyes are always hurting. My glasses are always foggy, and my clothes are way too heavy.
