Belarus
I've never visited an Eastern Block country before, but now, I can say that I have. I'm in Belarus! The weather here is fine. It's not too hot or too cold. I would prefer that the weather was warmer though.
I arrived in the capital city of Minsk a few days ago. The buildings are shorter, and the concrete they use for the streets are different. There are few skyscrapers, but there are many white and quaint buildings. I then went to find some food.
I went to a restaurant called Vasilki, and I had grechaniki and potato head with fore shank. The foods had a lot of flavor despite the fact that they didn't have that many ingredients in them. After the meal, I began to notice that in Eastern European countries, they had very basic vegetables, and a lot of the dishes included potatoes in them. After finishing my meal, I got into a taxi and went back to my hotel.
The next day, I got up bright and early for the hour long drive to Mir Castle Complex, southwest of Minsk. I met up with my tour group and then we drove out of the city. Outside of the city was farmland, forests, lakes, towns, and a lot of tall grass. When I finally made it to the castle, I was a bit sick. I do not like driving.
The castle was square, with a center in the middle for people to walk throuhg. The castle was the color of old bricks, and the ground was made of stones. It was kind of uncomfotable to walk on. There were many arches in the castle, as well as five towers. The castle actually looked more like a mansion, but it was still cool.
The inside of the castle reminded me of those Medieval towns that were inside of a fortress-like structure. My guess is that the castle was were the people of Mir would go if there was a raid. There seemed to be places for people to stay in the complex. But after I went inside of the rooms, I began to think that the castle was for the rich. There were things such as fine paintings and intricatedly carved dressers. It then became clear that this was the home of nobles. After finihsing the tour, my tour group drove all the way back to Minsk.
Belarus has beautiful places to visit, and very cold winters. The city of Minsk was very nice to visit, with good food and nice scenery. I would visit again, but not in winter.
